Near Holbrook, Arizona, USA, is The Petrified Forest National Park which is only a small section of the original area where petrified wood could be found. It was established as a means of protection for the rock because even though it was very abundant it became a popular commercial product when turned into garden features and furniture. A flash flood partially unearthed one of the specimens and it was propped up with a concrete beam to preserve it but lately the park does not interfere with the forces of nature any more so as to preserve it. The Park of 440 square kilometers also include colorful badlands.
